The biggest snubs and surprises of the 2017 Grammy nominations
The nominations for the 59th Grammy Awards were announced yesterday and, as expected, there were some surprises and a few notable snubs.
While the Grammys has the tough task of distilling the year in music into their list of nominees, Boston-based music journalist Maura Johnston says that they "definitely captured the here's-what-people-are-buying zeitgeist."
Leading the pack is Beyoncé with nine nominations this year including album of the year, which she lost to Beck last year. So will she take home the big prize this year against pop giant Adele's record-breaking 25? CBC Music's Del Cowie sees it going either way but adds that Beyoncé's "crater-sized impact on pop culture" will push her ahead.
Listen to Johnston and Cowie discuss more of this year's Grammy snubs and surprises including David Bowie's big omission, Sturgill Simpson's surprise nomination and why Frank Ocean's Blonde didn't make the cut.
