Carey Newman's Witness Blanket weaves healing and history
West Coast artist Carey Newman on his evocative tapestry of Residential School remnants.
West Coast artist Carey Newman joins guest host Wab Kinew to discuss his latest project The Witness Blanket, a large scale art installation made of artifacts gathered from Canadian residential schools and related institutions.
Newman, the son of a residential school survivor, reflects on bearing witness through doors, lost shoes, bricks and branches -- and how the pieces of his sprawling work, insignificant on their own, come together to create a compelling story.
