Filmmaker Brett Morgen only planned to spend a few months working on a documentary about late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

After eight years of exhaustive research about the grunge icon, the Oscar-nominated director has delivered the deeply intimate, revelatory film Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck. Morgen joins Shad to discuss the never-before-seen aspects of the film, why Frances Bean Cobain's endorsement is the only one that matters to him, and how he captured the "emotional truth" of the musician's short life.
