Maren Bailey wants to give makeup itself an extreme makeover

Maren Bailey has stunned the internet with her elaborate paper makeup designs, but the artist wants her art to be viewed as more than a novelty.

"It's like completing a painting. I think about the composition, the design, the colour," says Bailey, who pushes the boundaries of human adornment.

Today the Instagram sensation joins guest host Candy Palmater to discuss her wildly popular @teratology account on instagram, and how she uses paper, string, tape, cactus needles and other nonconventional materials to give makeup itself an extreme makeover.

Although she doesn't quite wear her designs every day, she does roll them out in the real world on special occasions.

Bailey also explains how she finds inspiration in the most unusual places — like her work as a forensic photographer. 

"Once you cross those barriers and realize there's so much more you can do, that's when you have more fun with it," she says.
