Director Damien Chazelle's musical picks for jazz newbies

"It's so quiet and perfect and haunting and beautiful and simple, not over done. Clifford Brown is maybe my favourite trumpeter of all time because there is a simplicity to his playing that is just so pure and he is not inundating you with technique, it's really emotional."
