Rickie Lee Jones wants to fight the darkness that gnaws at people
After taking a long break from song writing, Chuck E.'s in Love singer Rickie Lee Jones is back with an inspired new album, The Other Side of Desire.
It's horrible to be treated like you're no longer important, says Rickie Lee Jones. The Chuck E.'s in Love singer joins Shad to reflect on the lessons she's learned with age, both in and out of the public spotlight.
After taking a long break from song writing, the artist is back with a jazz-inflected pop and R&B album, The Other Side of Desire. After some dark years, including a period of addiction, Jones tells Shad that the suicide of her friend Robin Williams was a real wake up call.
"From now on a joyful noise. From now on a happy song," she says. "I mean to spend the rest of my life lifting people up and fighting that darkness that gnaws at people."
