q tech correspondent Clive Thompson joins guest host Gill Deacon to discuss the trend toward the "the internet of things" — that is: computer power built into things that don't normally require computers. 

Thompson also reflects on the "long western tradition" of innovation for possible profit (regardless of actual need) and why he returned his smart thermostat in favour of its "dumb" predecessor.
