Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings bring the spirit of soul, and their leading lady's resilience, to Studio Q. Their new and aptly titled album, Give the People What They Want, will hit you with its hard-charging brass section, air-tight percussion, girl group-style backup singers and commanding grooves.

This time around, the record's back story has been thrust into the spotlight.

Last year, the Brooklyn band shared that Jones was facing stage-2 pancreatic cancer. The group promptly shelved the album, cancelled tours and rallied behind their leading lady as she underwent chemotherapy treatment.

Now Jones is well enough to once again stand before the people. She and her band of neo-soul crowd pleasers bring their fresh take on 60s- and 70s-era soul, and their replenished spirits, back to the stage. Jones also sits down to talk to Jian about staying bold and bouncing back.
