Photographer Lynsey Addario on war reporting while female
Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Lynsey Addario has been our eyes on the ground in several international conflict zones, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Somalia and the Darfur region of Sudan.
Over the years, she's turned her lens toward women living under Taliban rule, trans sex workers in New York City, kidnappings in the desert and much more. Meantime, the MacArthur genius grant recipient grappled with the deeply personal: navigating relationships and motherhood in a profession that doesn't tend to accommodate either.
Today she joins guest host Sean Rameswaram to discuss what draws her to gruelling and terrifying projects, and why nothing -- not even pregnancy or kidnapping -- has stopped her from doing her work. Addario's new memoir is called It's What I Do: A Photographer's Life of Love and War.
