Kevin Powell on redefining manhood and unlearning misogyny

By his own account, Kevin Powell has changed a lot of over the years. He was once the kind of guy who'd shove his girlfriend into a bathroom door. Today, he's the kind of guy who gets endorsed by Gloria Steinem. 

The writer, activist and former hip hop journalist chronicles his personal journey in his new memoir, The Education of Kevin Powell: A Boy's Journey into Manhood. In it, he tells the story of growing up amid crime, racism and poverty and the damaging context in which most men shape their attitudes toward women.

Today he joins Shad to discuss his transition from misogynist to vocal supporter of women's rights, and why he's challenging men and boys to rethink manhood.
