Ruben Östlund on Force Majeure and the wounded male ego

Swedish director Ruben Ostlund on his Cannes 2014 Jury Prize winning film.

Swedish director Ruben Östlund joins guest host Piya Chattopadhyay to discuss Force Majeure, his film about a father desperate to save face after abandoning his family during an avalanche.

The Cannes 2014 Jury Prize-winning movie is a stark yet sometimes comical look at masculinity, the pressure on men to play the hero and the myths that inform modern family life. Östlund also explains how the rawness of YouTube videos, a friend's real relationship troubles and the Costa Concordia's ship-deserting captain informed his film.
