How Robert Carlyle's Glasgow childhood influenced The Legend of Barney Thomson
Shad talks to actor and director Robert Carlyle about his new movie The Legend of Barney Thomson and what it says about how his upbringing in Glasgow influences the roles he takes.
"The next time this script falls through my letterbox, I'll be waiting with a gun."
That's what Robert Carlyle said about the script for The Legend of Barney Thomson, after turning down the role several times in the past.
It's safe to say the script did get back to him again ... and luckily everyone came out of it safe and sound.
The movie tells the story of a barber who literally stumbles into murder. It's a dark and gritty comedy filmed in Carlyle's hometown of Glasgow.
He's done his fair share of acting, in classics like Trainspotting and The Full Monty. But Barney Thomson is his first shot at directing. It opens across the country on Friday.
