League of Exotique Dancers spotlights veteran 'bad girls' of burlesque
This year's Hot Docs opener takes audiences inside the golden era of burlesque, which took Las Vegas in the '50s, '60s and '70s.
Feathers and pasties and stockings — oh my! A new documentary, League of Exotique Dancers takes audiences inside the golden era of burlesque, which stormed Las Vegas in the '50s, '60s and '70s.
The film, which opens the Hot Docs festival in Toronto tonight, spotlights the legendary stars who took centre stage — including burlesque hall of famers Camille 2000 and Judith Stein.
Today Camille, Judith and director Rama Rau join guest host Gill Deacon to discuss the glitzy industry, the gritty problems that lurked just beneath the surface, and why they bill the film as "an alternate history of feminism".
