Career waitress: Candacy Taylor on the culture of veteran servers

Candacy Taylor joins guest host Brent Bambury to discuss her book, Counter Culture: The American Coffee Shop Waitress. The writer, photographer and cultural critic explores the (possibly vanishing) culture of the career waitress, and the surprising reasons these women serve well into their retirement years.

Taylor also shares the stories of veteran waitresses she interviewed, and how they differ from those waiting for another job to come along. 

"There are so many servers out there who don't want to be doing the work, and you can tell," says Taylor. "It's very different when you're served by somebody who warms your coffee cup, who really cares if you like your food."
