Sumé documentary tells story of a revolutionary sound
Inuk Silis Hoegh shares the story of Sumé: a greenlandic band that helped spark a revolution.
Every revolution needs a good soundtrack -- and in 1970s Greenland, it was politically-charged rock music that sent waves through the then-Danish ruled nation.
Filmmaker Inuk Silis Hoegh joins guest host Brent Bambury to share the story of Sumé -- a band credited with sparking a seismic shift in the culture of the island nation. The group were the first to record rock in Greenlandic, and their music motivated the native Inuit community to fight for their own cultural identity and push back against colonial rule.
Hoegh's award-winning documentary, Sumé: The Sound of a Revolution, captures their story.
