Jean Leloup wins big at the 2016 ADISQ gala
The Gala De L'adisq, celebrating the best music in Quebec, took place in Montreal last night and some of the evening's biggest winners were Jean Leloup, Les Cowboys Fringants and Safia Nolin.
q's resident Francophone arts and culture correspondent Kevin Sweet came in to the studio today to discuss the biggest moments and some disappointments.
On Leloup's big night, where he won the best male artist award for his album À Paradis City, Sweet notes that this shows ADISQ is "honouring artists that have been there for years." This, of course, left little room for any of the award's 30 first-timer nominees to get much attention.
Instead, the show gave way to big moments like Celine Dion's tribute to her late husband, Rene Angélil. "She was dressed like the queen," Sweet says. He goes on to use Dion as an example for why bigger anglophone artists such as Drake and Justin Bieber need to continue attending shows like the Juno Awards.
"They should make it a point to attend the Junos because people who watch for them can also discover new artists."
