Monica Heisey's no 'grown ass woman' — but she has learned some things

Comedian Monica Heisey confesses her mistakes and victories in her new Lena Dunham-approved essay collection, I Can't Believe It's Not Better.
She may not have all of adult life figured out, but Monica Heisey can tell you when you should switch to water, why you shouldn't worry about your underwear, and how to leave a party. (Hint: just leave.) (Stuart MacLean/CBC)

Sure, her advice is dubious — but it's also delightful. Comedian and writer Monica Heisey joins Shad to discuss her new, Lena Dunham-approved essay collection, I Can't Believe It's Not Better.

In it, the 26-year-old writer reflects on her mistakes and victories, her reluctance to seriously claim the title of "grown ass woman" and the value of opening up on hard topics — from bullying to abortion.

"There are very few topics or issues that wouldn't benefit from more people talking about them," she says. "[Conversation] can be validating and in some cases life saving."
