Michele Romanow of Dragons' Den on our cultural fascination with entrepreneurs

The Dragons' Den newcomer on why a successful businessperson would want to get into reality TV, and why Canadians celebrate the rise of the start-up.

Michele Romanow is one of the newest additions to the cast of CBC's Dragons' Den.

Romanow, born in Toronto and raised in Calgary, joined the show for its tenth season along with distillery and brewery owner Manjit Minhas amidst a time of change and upheaval in the show's lineup.

Vikram Vij, Arlene Dickenson, David Chilton and Kevin O'Leary have all departed their Dragons' seats in recent years.

But Romanow brings a wealth of digital expertise to the show, having started four companies before the age of 30.

Romanow talks to guest host Gill Deacon about her first season in the Den, why a successful businessperson would want to get into reality television, and why, even as Canadians watch the dollar sink, we continue to celebrate the rise of the start-up.

She also talks about the American public's fascination with Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump and with his image of a self-made entrepreneurial success — as well as rumours that her Dragons' Den predecessor Kevin O'Leary might want to follow Trump's lead and run for the federal Conservative Party leadership.
