Faced with personal demons, you can hate them, or you can work with them.

Comedian Aparna Nancherla, on the other hand, jokes about them. In her debut comedy album, Just Putting It Out There, she tackles her mental illness in an unconventional way - by poking fun.

Today, Nancherla shares her frank and hilarious take on her depression and anxiety with guest host Gill Deacon.

"It's something I have to navigate and manage and account for it in my day-to-day life and sort of work around it and work with it," she says.

Dealing with the ebb and flow of depression

Earlier this year she remembers waking up full of dread, whereas now, she feels lighter.

"It's like that season ended and there's a new show going on in my head," she says.

Even though she still struggles with stage fright, paradoxically she feels safer on stage than meeting people one-on-one. Especially meeting self-esteem crushing fashion models.

"A lot of times you come out having lost the battle," she says.
