How Creeps continues to help with our understanding of disabilities
The people behind the latest production of the Canadian classic play Creeps talks about the influence it has had on our understanding of disabilities.
When the play Creeps, about four people with cerebral palsy, first debuted in 1971, it was performed by actors without disabilities. Forty-five years later, the Canadian classic is now running in Vancouver and the cast includes actors with a variety of physical disabilities.
"This project helps us fulfil our mandate of deepening audience's understanding of the disability experience," explains Rena Cohen, Managing Artistic Director of Realwheels, the company putting on the production. "It has a narrative that reveals an authentic experience of disability."
