How filmmaker Heidi Saman stuck to her vision with Namour
Investors once told filmmaker Heidi Saman that her film, Namour, could benefit from incorporating a terrorist plotline. The story had nothing to do with terrorism.
Namour follows the story of an Egyptian-American valet who's struggling with some pretty universal problems. In fact, Saman's husband argues that "it's an immigrant story, perhaps, but I think it's an American film."
Which is true, and likely how the film ultimately found its funding via Kickstarter. "There is an audience for the type of film I want to make, and frankly, the type of film I want to see," Saman assures.
Today, Saman talks to Tom Power about her new film, the difficulties of getting it funded and the universality of the story at the movie's heart. Namour is available on Netflix now.
