Will Tuckett transforms an old fairy tale into an exciting, new ballet performance
Choreographer Will Tuckett discusses his latest work, which adapts the story of Pinocchio into a ballet performance.
Just like many other old fairy tales, Pinocchio has some spooky origins, and Will Tuckett wants to put his own spin on this story.
Tuckett is a choreographer who just put together a ballet version of Pinocchio, which premiered at the National Ballet of Canada this past weekend.
While he argues that the well-known Disney version is "a bit sweeter" than the source material, Tuckett was careful to keep his version family friendly as well. "Everyone gets something out of it," he explains. "The show implies darkness but doesn't necessarily need to show darkness."
Pinocchio runs until March 24 at the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto. For more information about performances, head over to their website.
