An Audience of Chairs wrestles with the complexity of motherhood and mental health

How do you come to terms with knowing you've done something you may never be forgiven for? That's the driving question behind director Deanne Foley's latest film, An Audience of Chairs.

Based on Joan Clark's book of the same name, the film is about an accomplished pianist named Maura MacKenzie who's spending the summer at her family home in Tors Cove, N.L., as she gets ready for a big audition. She ends up making a mistake that results in her losing her husband and custody of her children.

Foley joined q's Tom Power live from St. John's to talk about the project, which won the Atlantic Film Festival award for Best Atlantic Film. The film has a special one-night screening in St. John's on March 13. It will play for a week in Halifax and Toronto starting on March 22.
