From NFL to Broadway, Eddie George reinvents himself as Billy Flynn in Chicago
When Eddie George was only 31, he had already lived his dream and retired. He played football throughout his childhood, won the Heisman Trophy as a teenager (an award that goes to the best college football player in the U.S. every year) and racked up more than 10,000 rushing yards over a nine-year career in the NFL. After achieving most of his goals by his early 20s, George was left wondering: what's next?
He decided to take up a new dream. George stars as Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago. He made his Broadway debut in that role back in 2016. Now, he's taking the show on the road, bringing Chicago to Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre this month. He talks to Tom Power about living a new dream and the tough journey he survived to get where he is now.
The Mirvish production of Chicago opens in Toronto on Tuesday, June 12.
