Swamp Dogg knows the music industry from almost every perspective: he's a singer, songwriter, producer and A&R man. Jimmy Cliff and Bob Dylan have covered his songs and he's worked on huge hits with Gene Pitney, Doris Duke and Johnny Paycheck.

His music is a mix of soul, funk, psychedelic rock and country, and he uses his songs to speak out about race, class and politics.

Currently, Swamp Dogg is at work on a new country album featuring John Prine — the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2018 album, Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune, which he collaborated on with Justin Vernon, a.k.a., Bon Iver.

Swamp Dogg joined q's Tom Power from Los Angeles to tell us more about his amazing career in music.

If you're in Toronto, you can catch Swamp Dogg playing a rare Canadian show as part of the NXNE festival on Thursday, June 13.
