Captain Marvel, the new superhero blockbuster from Marvel's Cinematic Universe, is the highest-grossing film of 2019, but it's achieved something even more important: it's smashed our assumptions about gender.

Brie Larson is the first woman ever to front a Marvel feature film and that's not the only first. The film's soundtrack was composed by Pinar Toprak, who now holds the distinction of being the first woman to score a Marvel feature film.
