Vampires, romance and feminism: celebrating 20 years of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Originally published March 10, 2017
Twenty years ago today, Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered on television. While it fell somewhere between soap opera and teen drama, fan Maxine Stoddard argues that it was all of that, and none of that, at the same time.
"It's the best representation I've seen of a complete girl through adolescence, into womanhood," Stoddard explains. "It's some of the best comedy, and dialogue, and horror stories, and episodic, and overarching macro-stories I've seen in any television."
That high praise has been echoed by many who have either applauded the entire series, or specific episodes, for its extraordinary work over its seven seasons.
Today, fans Stoddard and Andrea Subissati head into the q studios for a nostalgic viewing party where they look back on the show's best moments and why it still resonates with audiences today. They also broke down the 10 best episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which you can read here.
