Miles Mosley on why jazz is on the upswing
The jazz bassist talks to Tom Power about his solo career and being part of the influential West Coast Get Down collective.
Through records like Kamasi Washington's The Epic, jazz has enjoyed a higher profile in recent years. One of Washington's key collaborators is Miles Mosley. Along with Washington, he's part of the West Coast Get Down, an influential Los Angeles jazz collective.
Mosley recently released his solo album, Uprising, which was recorded in the same mammoth 30-day jam session in 2012 that spawned Kamasi Washington's triple album, The Epic.
Mosley and his band join Tom Power in the studio to play some songs from the album and to talk about the West Coast Get Down's creative process and collaborating with Kendrick Lamar and the late Chris Cornell.
