The news has a way of making it seem like the world is a scary place. With every breaking news story that's come out since the start of this year, I'm almost convinced that it's true. You know... that we're all doomed.
It's easy to get swept up by mass hysteria. While sometimes it's tempting to believe misinformation without doing any further research—or to simply remain ignorant—doing so can come with great consequences.
CBC Podcasts' newest season of Uncover: Satanic Panic takes us to Martensville, Saskatchewan to relive "The Martensville Nightmare" — a time when moral panic swept over the town after residents were falsely accused of sexually abusing children for Satanic cult practices. Thoughtful in its approach, the podcast brings healing to the locals who were affected 30 years ago.
While Satanic Panic takes place during the 90s, I feel like this podcast couldn't be more timely. This story serves as a cautionary tale and sheds a light on just how important it is to not only stay informed, but to take a moment before jumping to conclusions. So the next time you catch up on your daily news, remember this: it's during times of fear and uncertainty that our critical-thinking skills will be our greatest strength.

So when a group of thieves decided to steal some sweet liquid gold from a storage warehouse in Quebec, they weren't about to stop at a couple of bottles or cases. This would go down as one of the most lucrative and perhaps most unusual robberies in Canadian history."
