Lindsay's Pick of the Week
My pick of the week is The Imposter from the Canadaland network. It's a smart exploration of the Canadian cultural scene. The sometimes serious, sometimes playful approach creates a fresh sounding show that balances deep cuts with major cultural news. It has an eye for the complexities of reporting on the arts in Canada, addressing race and gender issues head on.
The two-part episode I Pity the Country explores the work of Indigenous musicians in Canada. These episodes not only share beautiful musical moments and the stories of innovative artists, but also challenge our narratives around music in Canada, and ask important questions about the ownership of artistic works.
Aliya Pabani approaches her interviews with a thoughtful curiosity that pulls you in to the story. Strong production elements add some complexity to the sound of the show. My secret joy was discovering the episode on "That time the CBC aired 10 hours of crickets and church bells" which is a piece of audio I've personally been obsessed with since I started working in audio. The Imposter is certainly worth adding to your weekly downloads.
