Definitely Not the Opera

If Johnny Depp told you to get a tattoo, would you?

What would you do if a famous actor took you to a tattoo parlour at two in the morning and suggested you get one? No pressure, right? This actually happened to Canadian writer Christopher Heard.

What would you do if actor Johnny Depp took you to a tattoo parlour at two in the morning and suggested you get one? No pressure, right?

Back in the late 90s, Christopher Heard was a film critic for the CBC and had just written his first book, a biography about filmmaker James Cameron. Around the same time Christopher went to Los Angeles to interview actor Johnny Depp about his latest movie, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. On his way to the interview with Johnny Depp, Christopher saw his book in the window display of his favourite LA book store Book Soup. And he was thrilled.

Christopher mentioned it during their interview and so Johnny asked to meet up with him later that night to do something to 'mark the occasion.'

They ended up at a tattoo parlour in West Hollywood at 2 am and Christopher decided to get a tattoo of his publisher's logo - the Doubleday Canada Anchor, in honour of his first book. As their friendship grew, Christopher ended up writing a book on Johnny Depp as well, a biography called DEPP.
