The excitement surrounding Margaret Atwood's hotly anticipated novel, The Testaments, has reached Harry Potter levels of buzz — but should you read it?

Day 6 books columnist Becky Toyne thinks so.

"It's exciting to read and it is hopeful in a way that The Handmaid's Tale was not," Toyne told Day 6 host Brent Bambury.

"It's a brilliantly imagined world ... I can't see that this is going to disappoint people who have been waiting to find out what happens next in the story that they love."

The Testaments is the long-awaited sequel to Atwood's 1985 novel, The Handmaid's Tale. That novel has been turned into an Emmy-winning TV series.

Before its release, The Testaments was short listed for the Man Booker Prize and long listed for the Scotiabank Giller Prize — awards the 79-year-old Canadian author won in 2000 and 1996, respectively.
