Salman Rushdie on Day 6
A new interview with Salman Rushdie about his book "Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights" is coming your way next week. In the meantime, check out his last interview on Day 6.
When Salman Rushdie joined us on the show 5 years ago he was telling us about a book he'd written for his son called "Luka and the Lake of Fire."
That book is surreal in the way that fairy tales are surreal: with children outsmarting powerful god-like entities, and talking animals, and magic carpet rides.
Rushdie's latest book "Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights" is also a surreal fairy tale but this time it's for adults who live in the 21st century. It also has powerful supernatural forces, and comic book characters coming to life, but it's a world of sex and violence and philosophy and dangerous ideas. And I'm looking forward to talking him about the beauty and danger of language.
Next Thursday, I'm interviewing Salman Rushdie live onstage at the Appel Salon at the Reference Library in Toronto. That event is sold out, but you'll hear some of our conversation on Day 6 next week, and we'll post the full interview here on our website.
