It's the oldest tennis tournament in the world, and this year marks 140 years since Wimbledon first began.

From John McEnroe to Roger Federer to Martina Navratilova and Serena Williams, the courts at The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club have hosted the greatest tennis players of all time. 

The current women's champion, Serena Williams, is pregnant and will not be defending her title this year. But men's champion, Andy Murray, will return beside more than 700 players. They're competing over one fortnight for £31.6m ($52m Canadian) in prize money. 

But those figures aren't as surprising as some others from Wimbledon. Here's a look at the championship by the numbers.
