3D printing artifacts destroyed by ISIS
Artist Morehshin Allahyari was heartbroken when she saw the first video of ISIS destroying ancient artifacts, so she gathered their stories and used 3D printing to recreate them.
ISIS recently occupied the Syrian city of Palmyra, once again raising fears that along with a wave of violence against people will come the destruction of priceless artifacts.
Earlier this year, a video emerged of men using sledgehammers and drills to demolish ancient statues in a museum in Mosul, Iraq. That video prompted artist Morehshin Allahyari to recreate some of the lost objects through 3D printing.
The project is called "Material Speculation: ISIS" and you can see some of the pieces here.
