Light in the Attic Records shines a light on artists whose legacies have been long hidden away. One of their latest projects looks at a neglected chapter in Canadian music history: the contributions of aboriginal peoples to folk, rock and country music. Native North America Volume 1 is a compilation of some of that music recorded for the CBC and for small labels, from the 1960's to the 1980's. This Day 6 documentary brings you some of that remarkable music, along with the memories of musician Willie Thrasher, poet Duke Redbird, and the creator of the compilation, Kevin Howes, who tracked down the hard-to-find records everywhere from flea markets to record shops to private collections. We have one copy of the compilation to give away. Email us with Native North America in the subject line and be sure to include your mailing address.
