Dear Khaleesi: A mother's heartfelt letter to her awkwardly named kid
Years from now, today's baby Khaleesis might have questions, thanks to a dark Game of Thrones plot twist
Warning: This post contains mild spoilers for the final season of Game of Thrones.
For seven seasons, Daenerys Targaryen — also known as Khaleesi — was a symbol for female empowerment: A fierce but benevolent leader who rode dragons and conquered kingdoms.
But as Game of Thrones' eighth and final season draws to a close, the Mother of Dragons' reputation has taken a brutal hit after a dramatic plot twist.
That came as a nasty surprise for the many mothers around the world who have named their daughters after the character.
Last year alone, 560 Khaleesis were born in the United States — and a few years from now, those kids are probably going to have some awkward questions.
Earlier this week, Washington Post satirist Alexandra Petri wrote a column imagining one mother's message to her daughter Khaleesi. She read an adapted version of that letter on CBC's Day 6.
