What's your reaction to the horrific Saskatchewan bus crash?
Hockey tragedy.
More from this episode:
They were young men chasing a dream. Their talent on ice turned them into hometown heroes, took them to rinks and towns and cities across Saskatchewan — journeying countless hours along wintery Prairie highways as a team in a bus.
Until tragedy struck.
The whole country is still coming to grips with the horrific bus accident involving the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team and a transport truck that took place late Friday night. Fifteen were killed, 14 injured. Families are in shock and grieving.
The grief has spread beyond small-town Saskatchewan. Tributes keep pouring in from the prime minister, the U.S. president, NHL teams and pro athletes around the world — all sharing condolences and saluting the survivors. A crowd-funding effort to assist Broncos families has now raised over $3.8 million.
How are you and your community reacting? You may not be a hockey parent, but anyone whose ever experienced the camaraderie of a sports team or driven youngsters to a playing field or band practice or debating tournament can feel Humboldt's pain. Accidents such as this are rare, but they happen. Think the bus crash of the Swift Current Broncos in 1986, or the Boys in Red van accident in Bathurst, New Brunswick in 2008. How worried are you about safety?
Of course, hockey has a powerful hold on our national psyche. This loss hits especially close to home for countless Canadians who love the game and know what it's like to travel to neighbouring rinks and towns to cheer on our boys and girls. The hockey world is tight-knit. Maybe you've billeted junior players. Or maybe, you're a fan or a rink volunteer.
Our question today: What's your reaction to the horrific Saskatchewan bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos?
