What's your reaction to Canada's ban on 'assault-style' firearms?

In the wake of the Nova Scotia shooting rampage, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Friday a ban on over 1,500 "assault-style" firearms. Advocates spoke passionately both for and against the move.

In the wake of the Nova Scotia shooting rampage, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Friday a ban on over 1,500 "assault-style" firearms.

Effective immediately, legal gun owners can't sell, transport, import or use them anywhere in Canada.  

"There is no use and no place for such weapons in Canada," Trudeau said. "You don't need an AR-15 to bring down a deer."

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer quickly dismissed the move as "symbolism over substance."

Advocates including the families and survivors of mass shootings in Canada applauded the move. The CEO of the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights, meanwhile, condemned it.
