Epic summer reading: a 1000-page novel by an obscure 18th century writer

Laura Frey is hosting a summer read-along for 'Cecilia' by Frances Burney

Laura Frey's idea of summer reading isn't a fluffy beach book, but a meaty classic that she can really dig her teeth into.

This year, she's chosen Cecilia by Frances Burney—a pre-Austen era novel by a woman writer, who, though popular in her day, has faded into relative obscurity.

Laura's asking you to join her on her blog's read-along.

Laura is also only reading women authors in 2016. Here are top three books so far this year:

  1. The Diviners by Margaret Laurence
  2.  Birdie by Tracey Lindberg
  3.  Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood
