17th century selfies can be tough to identify, but a team from the Hamilton Kerr Institute were able to determine that it is a self-portrait painted by the Master himself. Rembrandt painted a series of self-portraits but this one had been in private ownership until recently. Using restoration techniques, the team was able to bring the painting back to it's glory.
"There's so much life in the brush strokes...it really is lovely," says Christine Kimbriel, from the HKI.
Although the painting is insured at a whooping 30 million pounds, it will not be sold. The portrait will be on display in Buckland Abbey in southwest England.
