Narcissists can be disruptive in social situations and in the workplace. And that's why, in part, researchers have developed a new, faster method for identifying narcissists. The faster they're identified, the faster they can get help. And in the age of social media and selfies, narcissism is increasing. The new test is completed with one simple question.
To what extent do you agree with the statement: 'I am a narcissist'?
It's as simple as that. Even the researchers were surprised at how willingly people admit to being narcissists.

Sara Konrath is the lead author of the study published in the most recent edition of PLOS ONE. She says that one of the problems with narcissists is that they think highly of themselves and seldom seek help or try to improve themselves.

"People who score high in narcissism have difficulty maintaining relationships with others, so they're always causing troubles and alienating themselves from others."

Professor Konrath tells As It Happens guest host Laura Lynch she hopes her research will help address and aid people with narcissism.
