Saving Newfoundland's Glassy Beach one piece of sea glass at a time
A unique and beautiful beach is in danger of disappearing. It is known as Glassy Beach and it's the site of a former landfill near Springdale, Newfoundland. But the soft and colourful pieces of softened glass that make it such a magical place are being taken away by visitors....
A unique and beautiful beach is in danger of disappearing. It is known as Glassy Beach and it's the site of a former landfill near Springdale, Newfoundland. But the soft and colourful pieces of softened glass that make it such a magical place are being taken away by visitors.
Now, a former teacher in the Springdale area is leading the campaign to save the beach.
And as part of her effort Anne Warr has erected a sign on the beach -- featuring a "genie in a bottle" and a poem by a local writer.

Anne Warr says the beach, even just two years ago, was full of pieces of soft and colourful glass.
She told Carol "the beach was covered in glass...over the years the ocean (the tide and the surf shaped it and moulded it and made it smooth and shiny. Beautiful glass, beautiful..."
