After forty years in solitary confinement, Herman Wallace dies after two days of freedom

Herman Wallace, one of the ' Angola 3', who served more than 40 years in solitary confinement in prison, died this morning.

On Tuesday, a federal judge overturned his conviction for the 1972 murder of prison guard Brent Miller. and ordered his immediate release.  Shortly after,  As It Happens spoke with Mr. Wallace's attorney, George Kendall.

Herman Wallace was one of three men convicted of the murder. All three have maintained their innocence, including Albert Woodfox, who remains incarcerated. He and Mr. Wallce were isolated in tiny cells, allowed out to shower or exercise one hour a day.

The third man, Robert King, was released in 2001, and has fought for the release of the other two since then. We spoke with him, yesterday.
