Jackie Healey has no idea what prompted two teenagers to brutally beat her on the final night of her internship at the Behavioural Health Foundation rehab centre in Selkirk, Man.

It was Jackie Healey's last shift as a college intern at the Behavioural Health Foundation in Selkirk, Man. on Sunday. It would also turn out to be her worst shift.

The Red River College student is recovering in hospital after being beaten with a baseball bat and pool balls stuffed inside a sock. Another worker was also attacked.

RCMP have now arrested two teenagers who were residents of the facility, which is north of Winnipeg.

Healey was on her last day of a work placement as part of her Child and Youth Care program at the college.

A spokesperson for Red River College told CBC the attack was "very unfortunate" and said the school is investigating. Conor Lloyd said the college will provide whatever support is necessary in order for Healey to complete her studies.

Healey spoke with As It Happens host Carol Off from the hospital about the traumatizing attack and why she has no idea what provoked it.

Here is part of their conversation.

Carol Off: These boys are 16 and 17-years-old...

Jackie Healey: Yeah, and you know what the thing is? I trusted these boys. Even though I've only been there for about three weeks I felt I had a good connection with them. It was just so weird that they were acting different on Sunday.

CO: I hate to ask you these questions Jackie, but did they use the bat on you when they were beating you?

JH: Yeah they did. That's why I have a cracked skull in many different places. The bone around my eye is fractured and my left eye is so swollen, it's like black, I can't see from it. The doctors are not sure if I'm going to be getting my vision back or not. I've been in the hospital for two days just trying to get better. I'm in so much pain. My head feels like it's going to explode sometimes. I really don't even know if I'm going to get my vision back or not. I'm scared. I don't know why these boys did this to me. I didn't do anything to them. I thought I had a good relationship with them. I'm so confused. I don't know.

CO: The two boys have been taken in by police. What do you think about that?

JH: I have a little bit of mixed emotions because I spent time with them and I really even wouldn't have seen this coming. I really thought that they were going to stay out of trouble. It's sad but I'm also, I guess, glad that they are taken and that people know where they are. I would like to know why they did it, you know?
