Nashville homeowner ordered to remove his front yard zombie
"There's a zombie in your yard that needs to be removed." That's the order that came from Jim Grinstead's homeowners' association in a letter he received last week.
The zombie statue — named Clawed — has been on Grinstead's front yard for over five years.
"At first, I was a little angry," Grinstead tells As it Happens host Carol Off. "But then, I realized it was an opportunity to … point out the absurdity of some of these things."
Recently, Grinstead had some landscaping done at his home in Nashville, Tennessee. As part of the work, Clawed was moved to a more visible spot on the front lawn. That's when Grinstead received the letter from his homeowners' association.
Grinstead says he doesn't plan on fighting the order to remove the statue.
"I suspect I could drag my feet and get another 30 or 60 days out of it. But then, it just becomes contentious and there starts to be bad feelings," he says.
But, Grinstead does have a plan for Clawed.
"We'll have Clawed in a place where we can get at him and when the zombie apocalypse comes we'll put him out to show the zombies that we are friendly to them. I think there may be a chance to help us get through whatever future torments may be coming our way."
