As It Happens

Wishing Nardwuar a speedy recovery from all of us here at As it Happens

The Canadian TV personality posted the news of his stroke on his Twitter and Instagram accounts this week. Nardwuar says the stroke happened Saturday night at a party in Vancouver.

We can't think of another interviewer more deserved of a theme song than Nardwuar.

The theme song for eccentric and beloved Canadian interviewer/radio host/singer/national treasure Nardwuar the Human Serviette.

But of course, he's not your everyday interviewer, or radio personality, or musician — although he is all of those things. He is Nardwuar, the Human Serviette, and for 30 years now, besides hosting his music show on Vancouver's CITR 101.9 FM, he has endeavoured to reveal the human side of public figures — with humour and off-the-wall questions.

Take this encounter with former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, as described in a 1993 news report:

As you can imagine, it takes a lot to throw Nardwuar off his game. But according to his Twitter account, that happened Saturday evening, when he suffered a stroke. The tweet included a photo of an ambulance monitor describing a "confused male (in an) altered level of consciousness." He is currently recovering at Vancouver General hospital.

Well, Nardwuar, if you happen to be reading, a speedy recovery from all of us here at As it Happens. We hope and expect that very soon, you will once again be "Durz(j)-nay rockin' oo slabode-nee svet!"

Which we're pretty sure is absolute nonsense-Russian. So let's do this instead — from Russia with love, this is Pussy Riot.
