Canadian artist Tom Forrestall found an interesting way to add value to his beloved 34-year-old Mercedes-Benz — he adorned it with painted images of the four seasons from bumper to bumper.
"It starts in spring in the front, running into summer up over the top, down the side to autumn and winter down the back," Forrestall tells As It Happens host Carol Off.
Forrestall kept the car in great condition, but when he did briefly consider selling it privately, a friend advised him that it probably wouldn't sell for very much. His friend suggested that he paint it instead for "added value."
Immediately, he thought of painting the four seasons onto the Mercedes and to call it "A Car for All Seasons."
When Mercedes-Benz Canada heard of his idea, they agreed to buy the car and commissioned Forrestall to paint it inside a car dealership showroom for all to see.
"I bought [the car] in 1980 brand new," he says. "It was my first brand new car, and being a Mercedes, I was quite awestruck by it."
The car is currently on display in Fredericton, New Brunswick, at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and may tour across the country later.
