Part One

Tied feet student
An eight-year-old First Nations student is tied at the ankle to another student as punishment — and now, two years later, his great-aunt wants the school board to review its decision to do nothing about it. 

Siegfried Park lawsuit
This week, New York Attorney-General Eric Schneiderman ordered the community of Siegfried Park to end its, quote "race-based housing discrimination." The Long Island enclave is home to about 100 people and was founded by Nazi sympathizers in the 1930s. But residents insist they in no subscribe to its racist past.

Thunder Bay deaths

Mexican journalist killed
He knew he was a marked man. After all, Javier Valdez had covered the drug cartels — which is a dangerous job for a Mexican journalist. But he never stopped working — and then, this week, he was shot dead outside his newpaper's office in Sinaloa. 

Whale heart
Preserving the 400-pound heart of a dead blue whale meant first extracting it from the corpse, which was messy; then wrapping it in several hundred feet of bubble wrap for a trip to Germany. It finally went on display this week at the Royal Ontario Museum.
