U.S. Girls bring her eclectic, experimental pop to Toronto’s Velvet Underground
“Playing live is important to me, because then I’m not creating art in a vacuum,” said U.S. Girls frontwoman, Meg Remy, before taking the stage at the Velvet Underground in Toronto. Under soft, orange-tinted lights, Remy and her band kicked off the show with a funk-inflected performance of “Only Daedalus,” an upbeat song from the 2023 album, 'Bless This Mess.' She grooved barefoot through the whole set, her voice mixing seamlessly with robotic backing vocals from her band. Jangly electric guitar solos filled the room as the crowd bopped along. “It’s probably the most social thing that I do, playing live, so it gives me my dose of humanity,” Remy said.
